Hands Off Kellock Lodge Is The Cry

Hands Off Kellock Lodge is the headline from a feature supplement in the June 27 edition of The Local Paper.

Locals from the Alexandra district are scathing of Bishop John Parkes and the Wangaratta Diocese in letters to the editor.

Comments such as -

"This whole fiasco reflects raw opportunism, unwarranted haste and pressure, and complete lack of understanding of the Alexandra community."

"There is a breathtaking arrogance about the Bishop's behaviour."

"Bishop Parkes is doing untold damage to any reputation that the Anglican Church might have had remaining in Murrindindi shire."

"The Melbourne Anglican Archbishop appears impotent to stop Bishop Parkes' grab for Kellock Lodge."

Function of Government

The role of government is to create an environment for commerce to function whilst at the same time protecting retirees and particularly vulnerable retirees from both financial and emotional harm emanating from that function.

The Victorian Retirement Villages Act 1986 provides the environment for commerce to function but fails to fully protect retirees from financial and emotional harm as a result of it.

The Victorian legislative definition of a retirement village in demanding the payment of an 'in-going' amount without the transfer of property ownership is a major contributor to that financial and emotional harm suffered by retirees.
